Happy Monday everyone! To get the week started off well, here is a beautiful new solo arrangement of “The Seal Lullaby” by Eric Whitacre. Handbell soloist Nancy Kirkner from Seattle, Washington along with her accompanist Janet Anderson created this gorgeous arrangement from the already beautiful piece. Without further introduction, here is their creation, filmed this past November.
Those who have been following the blog know that I’m an Eric Whitacre fan. The Nevada trained compser writes mostly spectacular choral pieces, although he sometimes ventures off into wind ensemble and rock opera pieces. I have thought for years that his music would sound beautiful on bells, and Kirkner demonstrates that in the above video. Here is the original choral music, in case anyone was curious. Are there any other arrangers out there who want to tackle arranging Whitacre music? I know there’s at least one handbell person out there who will help you record it (ME!).
