Handbells Were Born To Be Played This Way

This video goes down as one of our favorite bell videos on the web by far.  Arranger andringer Brian Seemann wrote this cover of “Born This Way” by Lady Gaga and performed all four parts himself, using the magic of movies and YouTube to make everything work.  Especially of interest is the use of the intinction technique, where the bell is dipped into a bucket of water to lower the pitch (I’m not sure if that technique has an official name yet, but I’m voting for the term “intinction“, mainly because it’s an awesome word).  I’ve never seen intinction used in a musical way like this in a piece before, which makes it even better. This is the type of ringing we were talking about in our last post that will finally make handbells a mainstream instrument.

Also, for those who haven’t heard it before, here is the original piece as performed by Lady Gaga.
