They’ve Got Much More Than Just Rhythm

Everyone once and a rare while I run across a bell group that completely floors me.  This, I am happy to announce, is one of those moments!
Kiriku Handbell Ensemble performs with grace, precision, power and musicality.  Unfortunately, due to my monolingualism (yes, that is a word; Wikipedia says so) I don’t know much about this group other than the fact that this sextet’s performance of “I’ve Got Rhythm” is a tour-de-force of bell ringing.  Just wait until they hit the B section; I guarantee your jaw will be on the floor.

The fact that this video only has 250 views is a crime!

I think my favorite part is the confidence this group exudes while playing.  Every ringer up there looks comfortable and calm.  Just watch the lady on the tenor mallet bass part about 1:30 into the video.  I’ve never seen someone execute a bass run that fast with such grace.

Check out their Youtube Page for more outstanding performances.  My only complaint is that they didn’t post any full songs, and there are only 8 videos on their page.  More groups like this need to make their mark on the web!
