Video of the Week: Blackbird

The Beatles song “Blackbird” is a timeless classic.  Like much of the music by the Beatles, “Blackbird” continues to be a popular song.  At their concert last month, Bell Appeal premiered a cover of Blackbird beautifully written for bells and voice by Jen Hayes.  The concert was entitled “The Story of my Life”, and group members recounted times in their lives each song had touched them. Shawn Dulaney, one of the group’s vocalists, explained the special meaning “Blackbird” has had in his life:

It was one of Adam Berger’s favorite songs and he would play it (beautifully as many of you know) on his guitar, and we would sing it together, when we dated. It’s one of the things I remember most fondly about our time together. My voice is shaky in it, as I’m trying really hard not to cry. Immediately prior to the song, I recounted this memory, and dedicated it to Adam’s shining life and love and memory.

I was luck enough to be at this concert, and the combination of Shawn’s beautiful voice with the thin, gorgeous bell part made this one of my favorite performances of the night.

If you had to pick one song that tells the story of your life, what would you pick?
